Asyad Shipping has taken a significant step towards sustainability by applying a cutting-edge anano-epoxy silicone coating to its 2014-built bulk carrier, Jabal Al Kawr, at the Asyad Drydock in Duqm, Oman. This innovative hull coating upgrade marks the second successful application at the shipyard, following the historic first-ever use in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region on the 88,174dwt bulk carrier, Julia, owned by Minoa Marine earlier this year.
In the quest to reduce operational carbon emissions from maritime vessels, hull coatings are set to play an increasingly vital role. The newly applied abrasion-resistant coating offers a host of environmental benefits, aligning seamlessly with Asyad Shipping’s sustainability objectives. The company, however, has not disclosed the name of the coating supplier.
High-grade hull coatings like this not only enhance the vessel’s performance but also contribute to fuel efficiency and a reduction in carbon emissions. They also minimize the need for extensive maintenance during subsequent dockings. Notably, this particular product does not contain biocides, making it a choice that minimizes its impact on the marine environment.
Dr. Abdulsalam Al Rabaani, Acting COO of Asyad Drydock, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Being the pioneer drydock to employ nano-epoxy silicone coating in the MENA region underscores our advanced ship-servicing capabilities and our ability to embrace the latest industry innovations. It also reinforces our commitment to forging partnerships with leading green solution providers. Our collaboration with Asyad Shipping demonstrates the synergy between our two companies and our shared dedication to sustainability, in harmony with Asyad Group’s strategy to facilitate the transition to a sustainable maritime future.”
Situated strategically in the Port of Duqm along the Gulf of Oman, Asyad Drydock enjoys a prime location close to major shipping routes. This advantageous location minimizes deviation time for customers, further enhancing the appeal of the facility.
